BIOGRAPHY    MUSIC SOURCES

Irène Baume was a pupil of Vincent D’Indy at the Paris Conservatory in the late 1800’s though little information is available about her life . D’Indy became dissatisfied with the teaching standards at the Conservatory and became the co-founder of the Schola Cantorum of Paris in 1894. Its mission was to musically educate male and female students in the early music of Palestrina. Baume likely followed D’Indy to study at the Schola Cantorum. She is listed as a fellow student with Jeanne Barbillion (1895-1982), pianist, violinist, and composition major who wrote with some success for violin, piano, voice, and ensembles. Other students at the school included Darius Milhaud and Erik Satie.
